Support and help: how your community will make a difference...

Updated: Nov 23, 2018

Volunteer ! This is a cry from all sorts of organizations in our day and they form a very important support to our society. Webster says a volunteer is 1 : a person who voluntarily undertakes or expresses a willingness to undertake a service: such as. a : one who enters into military service voluntarily. b(1) : one who renders a service or takes part in a transaction while having no legal concern or interest.

Jesus had disciples, men who volunteered for the mission of Jesus for three years, although they did not know that when they committed to "come, follow Me." When I was first a believer I heard a phrase, that we are "saved to serve." When we become a member of God's family, we have a time of learning. The word disciple means "learner". The Body of Christ is made up of "learners" from Apostle to Pope ! The word "disciple" means "learner" so at Restoration Pointe we are discipling Jesus followers so they may grow more and more in their own walk in the pilgrim way of Jesus. In addition to that call to the cross there is the commission. The commission was to be apostles, that is "ones sent". Most people hear about Jesus from others. Perhaps in their work with others, perhaps in a time of crisis, perhaps on a radio or television program and sometimes just because someone cared enough to share. Part of the work of grace at Restoration Pointe is to be "salt of the earth" and "the light of the world." Salt historically both made things taste better and also preserved things like meat, from beginning to decay. Light enables a person who has the ability to see to have the technology of the eye refract so that light enables sight.

We engage in this work by labor in the vineyard: offering an act of love to a neighbor, baby-sitting, cutting their lawn, offering unconditional love in innumerable ways for no reason but for the sake of what Jesus has done for us and in obedience to His charge. It is by this that the ancient world and in the world ever since that it is recorded in the book of Acts that "those who have turned the world upside down have come unto us! " (17:6) This work of God's unconditional love will continyue in us until God takes us home.
